RE: Winnebago 'View'

I own a Navion (same as the View). Very, very satisfied. Like Val, no service needed so far except an oil & filter change. No problems at all. This is a delightful and reliable little motorhome. As mentioned, you may want to log in to Yahoo Groups and find the View-Navion group. Very, very helpful.

RE: If bail out passes and works

How many years before it helps the RV industries out there? And in what way. A long time. The bigger problem for the RV industry is all the baby boomers that had big retirement nest eggs who were about to retire now have nearly nothing and will need to work quite a few more years. There is a lot of money to be made in investments as the market recovers (and it will recover) but it is not going to be in the short-term. Sadly, not a lot of boomers moved to income funds but stayed in the lucrative stock market . . . and then it became not so lucrative.

RE: list of Sprinter based motor homes

The FW website lists 3 different models but when I click the floor plans they all appear to be identical. Am I missing something or is that right? Or do they just use the model names for the different interior & exteriors? Everything you wanted to know about Sprinter RV's is right here!:B http://sprinter-source.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=4 There is a complete list and links for ALL the sprinter based MH's on the opening page of this web site. Good Luck! Personally I liked the Four Winds full body paint model. http://www.fourwinds-rv.com/images/09-Sprinter.jpg Had the best layout which gave the most spacious interior. It is new for Four Winds and it not on the list, but check it out! http://www.fourwinds-rv.com/Four_Winds_RV-Sprinters.html

RE: Class C Rv covers

We don't live on top of a mountain but our street is a veritable wind tunnel funneling all wind right down it. No problems thus far.

RE: Class C Rv covers

I got ours from Calmark RV Covers. It has been through only one winter but still looks brand new. I am very pleased with it and it will be custom made for your RV. It has a 6 year warranty too.

RE: Dynamax rv

Lou . . no ill-will toward Class A'ers at all. Like you I don't care what someone's gear is be it a Country Coach or a Sir Edmund Hillary 8'x8' tent. I've gotten to meet such neat people from all walks of life through camping. I can't imagine staying somewhere where people aren't allowed based on what they camp in. Who knows what life experience we'd be missing out on? We have a class A and we will NOT stay in any park that discriminates like that "class A only" crap! We had a class C and loved it but we needed BIGGER for wintering for 4 to 5 months a year, otherwise we would still have our class C. It was a great, trouble free coach and drove like a limo. We don't look down on anyone no matter what you "camp" in. We started in a tent then went to a pickup camper and on to the motor homes. We welcome and respect everyone who gets out and enjoys this lifestyle. Lou

RE: Dynamax rv

But the parks that would ban the truck conversion style motorhomes, regardless of price, would not be a good place to stay. The reason is that when you go for a walk you have to walk with your head tilted back and your nose in the air so you are looking down at the "common people" LOL! Precisely! There was a Q&A thing on RVTV last year while they were still very Class A centric (much better this year) and they were asking people what they thought of Class A only RV Parks. Of course, they were obviously AT a Class A RV park at the time. One woman says "Well, I don't want to sound snobbish" and then proceeded to make a bunch of conceited, snobbish statements.

RE: Dynamax rv

And that's okay . . 'cause for some of us we wouldn't stay in those "parks" even if we had a Class A.

RE: Itasca Navion IQ 24DL

... BTW, what is the basic difference between the Navion and Navion IQ besides the elimination of the front loft area in the IQ? That and some floor plan differences. Slightly different fixtures too. So Itasca created another model just because of floor plan changes and different fixtures? Seems odd. OK, then what does the IQ stand for? It was created due to demand. The IQ floor plans are radically different then the View/Navion. It also does not have the cabover. The whole vehicle is somewhat lighter then the regular View/Navion. No idea what IQ stands for. I think is is supposed to reference it being a smart choice . . you know . . . marketing.

RE: Itasca Navion IQ 24DL

I saw a Winnebago View yesterday in a parking lot. It obviously was much larger than the surrounding cars but strangely didn't take up more space than one car. Granted the space was an outside edge and the end stuck out past the curb but still, the View was not obtrusive at all. Then I got to thinking about one of the possible advantages of the rear slide on the Navion IQ 24DL. Some of the federal parks here in San Diego County have short posts outlining the campsites. They're very awkward in my opinion by the way they keep the RV confined to a small area. The rear slide allows for further extension into the camp area. Also, not having a slide on the passenger side would provide more room or less of an obstruction in the area under the awning. I'm liking this 24DL more and more. BTW, what is the basic difference between the Navion and Navion IQ besides the elimination of the front loft area in the IQ? That and some floor plan differences. Slightly different fixtures too.

RE: RV Stolen From Forest River - help please

Wow! This story is unbelievable. FR could have come out of this smelling like a rose and instead a skunk comes to mind. Why not sell them a loaner unit for a $1.00 on the promise that they'll return it when their insurance check comes through? Or go to their dealers and find a used unit they could make the same arrangements with. Unbelievable. It is no wonder Americans get such a bad reputation abroad . . . what unbelievable bureaucracy.

RE: Itasca Navion IQ 24DL

We have the 2008 Navion iQ CL. Would have loved to get the slide-out bed but it would mean removing our bikes at each overnite stop. Front seats swivel on both and are adjustable up and down plus more. Good point about the bikes. We don't currently use them on vacation but it's worth considering for the future. I wonder why Itasca chose the back slideout instead of a side configuration? Possibly limitations due to the Sprinter chassis? What is your opinion of the Mercedes diesel and how it performs on inclines? Do you tow anything? It is just a different floor plan for those that may not like or want a side slideout. The remainder of the View/Navion flooplans all have a side slide. The rear slide is a bit narrower therefore a bit lighter.

RE: Oil change Class C Motor Home Sprinter Chassis

We bought our 2008 Navion iQ from Lichtsinn Motors in Forest City, Ia.- home of Winnebago. This is the oil recommended by them. If we ruin our MB diesel - can we sue them? :) You can try . . . but unless the recommendation came from a Dodge dealer it is pretty worthless. The folks at Lichtsinn are good people but they are an RV dealership . . not a Dodge service center. When changing oil either check with an authorized service center or read the chassis manual for oil recommendations.

RE: Georgia DNR to Close Some State Parks and Historic Sites

Not that they provide camping in any of their SPs but John Corruptzine in NJ recently tried the same thing. Not sure why States are so quick to shut down one of the cheapest things in their State budget. Yet start looking at entitle programs that only benefit a few and are full of corruption and you can't touch them.

RE: Sprinter Chassis Doesn't Add Up

I was just going over some specifications on the Navion IQ with the Sprinter chassis and some things don't make sense to me. The Mercedes 3.0L diesel engine on the Sprinter apparently is rated at 154 hp with 280 ft lbs of torque. Is this engine really large enough to handle the Navion IQ and still have a towing capacity of 5000 lbs? I know it would make it's way down the road but how does it perform on mountainous roads? Well . . we actually own and drive an '07 Navion 23H with the smaller, lower HP I5 turbo diesel. So ours is a heavier vehicle then the IQ with a smaller engine . . and it has power to spare. We occasionally tow a 2700 lb. car as well and other then on the steepest grades don't even know its there. Two weekends ago we towed from Pennsylvania to Virginia and still got 16.5 mpg. In May we drove on a straight line from Luray, VA to I-81 . . . up and down roads that ended in the word "Gap" where tractor trailers were prohibited. We went up at or above the speed limits for the roads. There are TONS of folks who have these vehicles and have driven them all over creation over the biggest hills in the US . . . without a problem. The Sprinter Chassis is a good chassis and the little M-B diesel will do any job you want it to do in an RV this size.

RE: $2400 for Winnebago View Booth Seats??

I have the table already. I just want the booth seats put back in. Seems to me the dealer could buy the bucket chairs from me (ie: reduce the price by at least $1k), but surely that won't happen. They'd just hold onto the seats until the next person wanted them installed, and then charge that person a fortune. I'm beginning to agree with someone who spoke about this dealer: great buys on rvs....but lousy, over-priced, and rude service thereafter. Guess I'll find my own way to 2 booth seats. As you have figured out, the dealer will not buy back or trade in used seats . . no more then they would any other used part. Also, bear in mind that yours is the only unit I've heard of with a dinette table with bucket seats. I don't believe that is or ever was a factory option but rather something someone mocked up on their own. There have been a lot of DIY customizations done to View/Navion slides by folks. The point is that isn't a modification a lot of people are looking to do. Regarding the price from the factory . . that does sound about right to for the dinette benches. RV parts are not cheap! Also, bear in mind that they may or may not have any of the factory fabric for your year left. When we went through the stitch craft plant I asked that question and the answer was "it depends".

RE: Oil change Class C Motor Home Sprinter Chassis

I have a 2008 Class C Itasca Navion IQ MH with a 3.0 mercedes benz turbo diesel. I would like to have the oil changed although it is not scheduled yet. I have about 7000 miles on it since purchasing it on 2/14/08. I already have the special synthetic oil required. The local Dodge Dealer quotes a price of $375 for oil (refuses to use mine),labor, oil filter, fuel filter. This seems beyond reasonable to me. My questions are: Is this the going rate? Are there other resources in Metropolitan Detroit who may do it for less? How difficult would it be to do myself, I am reasonably handy with these things. Thanks in advance Most dealers are in the $300.00 range for the oil change. As mentioned, right now it isn't all that easy to find the oil or filter required for the 3.0 liter engine. That is actually the bulk of the bill. $375 still sounds high though. You may want to check out the View-Navion, View-Navion Tech, and Sprinter Van groups on Yahoo. There are LOTS of folks who do this themselves and it is, apparently, quite easy. You DO need to purchase an oil filter wrench from Dodge. It is a very specific tool. Also, don't kill yourself doing this more often then necessary. MB recommends 10,000 miles and there are folks that have sent their oil off to Blackstone labs and have discovered it can go MUCH longer then that though perhaps not initially at break-in. The fuel filter replacement is cheaper then the oil change. Though it is a tad more complicated, it can still be a DIY. Check out the Yahoo groups mentioned above. There are a bunch of pictorials and instructions on how to DIY. View Navion Group

RE: sprinter based rv-any with knowledge please reply

So, basically you are saying that by Winnebago having a duplicate line, they can stiff their Winnie dealers by putting Itasca across the road? Gee... doesn't that make sense... NOT! How does that explain the duplicate Fleetwoods? Typically they are not "across the road". Many, many, many companies do this. Go look at the brands offered by Fleetwood, Monaco, etc. Winnebago will also be offering the Era as a third product line. Additionally, the Winnebago and Itasca lines are diverging a bit . . at least as far as the Sprinters go. The Navion IQ is an Itasca-only product and the 24P is Winnebago-only. Additionally, the colors are completely different.

RE: What Are You Doing in My Campsite? - Long Post

We camped at a waterfront site this weekend. The campground has a marina available for free to all campers and 3 very large fishing piers open to all. For the second year in a row we enjoyed a waterfront site that we paid extra for. Now . . it so happens the area in front of our site is not grown in in grass yet so I fully expected our site to become a public thoroughfare . . . even though the amenities in the campground clearly eliminated the need to march through anyone's site. One note here: You sign a copy of the rules upon check-in. Here is a cut & paste from the rules: CAMPSITES: 1. Each lot is private property and is only to be used by the person renting same, their guests and visitors. The common use area is for use by all persons. 2. Picnic tables are not to be moved outside the rental site. One family one site Well . . much to my delight and surprise, the privacy of our site was respected by all but one individual and his kids. They felt the need to beach their jetski in front of our site during the day and march to and from a campsite off the water. I didn't even so much mind them walking through though I didn't understand why they just couldn't use the marina like everyone else (there were a 1/2 dozen jet skis in the marina). But the topper was in the evening when we were sitting around the fire and the father and kid came through. The kid came over and ran around our fire and began playing with it . . . and the father said nothing! So I asked him to not play with our fire and the father gave me a dirty look. (He was on the cell phone). I was amazed then, that they got on the jet ski, with no life jackets, and rode off IN THE DARK with no lights. So I guess rules of any sort don't apply to them.

RE: What Are You Doing in My Campsite? - Long Post

I guess I can see both sides here. I personally do not like people walking through the site I rented, however, if there is an adjacent trail between two areas . . okay. I personally think the campground should make is so people don't need to walk through each other's sites to use the facilities of the grounds. As far as water front, at the vast majority of sites I've been to, you pay more for waterfront AND there is usually a beach or other public access area for those NOT on the water. In those cases, if you don't want to pony up the additional cash for waterfront, don't expect me to foot the bill for you.
